Yesterday was a big day in the Lundstrom house. I have really been slacking in the photo department so I have no pictures of any of the new things that happened. Such a bummer! Tyson is changing everyday. He has really come a long ways in the last few weeks. His para at school is wonderful and he is learning more and more everyday. It is so exciting to watch. So yesterday Tyson looked out our patio door and saw the neighbor girls jumping on the trampoline. He yelled, "The girls are jumping!" I was so excited to hear a full sentence! Then he runs into his room, I hear one of his buckets dump onto the floor, he runs out of his room with his binoculars! He runs over to the door yelling at the top of his lungs, "I see the girls jumping, look mommy!" So as usual when he uses full sentences I melt and let him do whatever he wants, so I bundled him all up and he went outside to jump with the girls.
Next, we take Charlie for a haircut, he was starting to look like a husky little girl with all his hair. I have put it off because I thought there would be no way that he would sit still long enough for a haircut. We had gone in once before and were only able to cut around his ears. We had him sit on Joel's lap and he started off doing very well. Then he started to wiggle. We thought it was over, half done. What are we going to do now? The barber suggests giving him a sucker to see if that will distract him. My natural instinct was to say, "no way" because Tyson would NEVER have eaten a strange object like that. Tyson did not eat a sucker until he was about 3, and he still does not really like to eat candy at all. But we thought why not try it because he could not leave the barber with half a haircut. For some reason I pulled out a watermelon flavor. We unwrap it and put it in his mouth expecting that he would start gagging like our previous experiences. It was the exact opposite! He LOVED it! He wrapped his tongue around that thing, slobbered all over, and cried when we took it away to wash the hair off it! He may be normal after all!
Lastly, we went to the K-State game last night. I decked the boys out in the cutest gear we own hoping that they would be on the jumbo tron. Much to our surprise a girl comes up to us in the first helf and asked if Tyson and our neighbor girl would want to be in the half time slam jam contest. Joel really wanted to say no because we never know how Tyson will behave in a situation like that. I said yes we need to try and if he gets crazy Joel can just take him off the court. Halftime comes and out comes Tyson. He is following every instruction that the cheerleaders are giving him. (I think part of it was that it was cute girls giving him instructions) He goes first and slams it in. The crowd cheered really loud for him. He then had to go stand by the cheerleaders while everyone else went. He just stood there the whole time. The next girl to go is my boss' daughter and she watched herself on the jumbo tron and went really slow and then softly put the ball through the hoop. It was really cute. Then our neighbor girl goes and she slams it hard. A couple other kids go and then Willie picks the winner. He lifted up our neighbor! She won the contest! It was awesome because they replayed the dunk in slow motion on the jumbo tron. We were soo proud!
